The SEAS Toolkit, developed by Nature United with community partners in Bella Bella (Heiltsuk Nation), Klemtu (Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation), and Bella Coola (Nuxalk Nation), is a practical resource for people who want to start, strengthen, or further develop land-based education programs for youth. Drawing on the experience of existing SEAS programs, it emphasizes that there is no single “right” model for land-based programming; programs should reflect the unique needs, values, priorities, resources, and opportunities of each community. The toolkit walks practitioners through the full program-development process—from starting conversations and identifying community assets and funding, through program design, partnerships, coordination, goal-setting, activity planning, budgeting, implementation and risk management, to reflection, evaluation, and sharing results. It is intended to be flexible rather than prescriptive, encouraging communities to use the sections most relevant to them, start with something manageable, and build their programs over time.
